Elite Gate Motor & Opener in Beverly Hills: What to Know First
Elite gate motor and opener work in Beverly Hills usually takes us one visit, sometimes two if a control board has to come from the distributor. We’re an independent Elite service provider, which means we fix what’s failing instead of pushing you toward a full system swap. Most Elite repairs in the Flats and up toward Trousdale run $220 to $480, and we never touch a gate without the price agreed in writing first.

If you own an Elite SL3000 slide motor or one of the older SENTINEL swing arms, this page will tell you how they fail, what it costs to make it right, and why Hal Gatewood has been the guy Beverly Hills calls since 2001. You can reach us right now at (559) 844-6989. A live person answers, day or night.
How Elite Products Fail - and How We Fix Them
Elite builds a solid motor, no question. But every brand has its weaknesses, and after twenty-plus years opening panels across this city, we know exactly where Elite units tend to give up.
- SL3000 slide motor: limit switches drift and the gate slams the post. The SL3000 is everywhere in Beverly Hills, mostly on estate driveways north of Sunset. The limit switch assembly sits right where dust from decomposed granite and dry Santa Ana wind finds it. When the switch drifts, the gate overshoots and hammers the end post, which then cracks the drive chain tensioner. We replace the limit switch with the updated sealed unit, reset the travel, and re-tension the chain. Took us three visits on a house off Benedict Canyon before we caught the chain tensioner part of it, so now we always check both.
- SENTINEL swing arms: capacitor failure after seven or eight years. These work hard, especially on the double-leaf entry gates common in the Flats. The start capacitor degrades in heat, and one day you press the remote and get a hum with no movement. A lot of companies quote a full operator replacement for this. We replace the capacitor, test the motor windings, and you’re running again for under $200. Hal started doing this on his own gate back in 2006 and it’s been a standard fix ever since.
- SL2000 and older SL series: relay chatter on the control board. When corrosion builds on the relay contacts, you hear rapid clicking and the gate stutters. Some techs will tell you the board is dead. We open it, clean the contacts with contact cleaner and a burnishing tool, and re-seat the harness. If the board’s genuinely gone, we’ll say so and show you the damage before we order anything. But we don’t swap boards on a guess.
- Photo eye misalignment on curved driveways. Beverly Hills has no shortage of curved approaches. The photo eyes on Elite systems have a narrow beam, and when a tire clips a bollard or the sun bakes a bracket out of square, the gate refuses to close and blinks a fault code at you. We realign the eyes, replace the brackets with sturdier ones when needed, and adjust the beam angle for the actual curve of your driveway. This is a $120 to $180 fix on most visits.
- Remote receiver range fading on older SL models. The Elite receivers from the early 2010s used a frequency that gets crowded now with all the smart gear in high-end homes. Range drops to twenty feet and you sit in the car pressing the button like it owes you money. We add a newer Elite receiver module or re-flash the board when it’s compatible. Keeps your original remotes working, just with the range back.
Our Elite Gate Motor & Opener Process
Here’s how a typical Elite call goes, from the first ring to the last test cycle.
- 1
You call, a live person answers. You tell us what the gate is doing, or not doing. We ask a few questions about your Elite model and what you’re seeing. If we can spot a safety issue on the phone, we tell you to keep the gate open and the system off until we arrive.
- 2
We show up when we say we will. Hal or one of his crew arrives in a Gatewood truck. We open the cover, inspect the motor, the board, the chain or arm, the photo eyes, and the gate itself. Most Elite problems aren’t the motor at all. They’re the wiring, the alignment, or the gate hanging wrong and fighting the operator.
- 3
You get a written price before any work. We discuss OEM Elite parts versus quality aftermarket. On safety-related components like photo eyes and limit switches, we recommend OEM. On caps and minor hardware, aftermarket is often the same part in a different box, and we’ll tell you when that’s true. You decide, you approve.
- 4
We fix it on site. The gate stays in your driveway. We weld here, we mount here, we wire here. If a control board has to come from the distributor, we set a firm date for the return visit and you pay nothing until the job is done.
- 5
We test it properly. Full open, full close, force settings checked so the gate won’t hurt a person or a dog, auto-close timing measured, remote range verified from the street. We show you the fault lights are clear.
- 6
You get the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If anything we touched isn’t right within ninety days, one call brings Hal back. No runaround, no “it must be a different problem now.” That’s the whole point of the promise.
What Elite Gate Motor & Opener Costs in Beverly Hills
Elite repairs in Beverly Hills fall into a few clear price bands. Capacitor replacement on a SENTINEL or SL swing unit runs $140 to $190. Limit switch and travel reset on an SL3000 runs $180 to $260, depending on whether the chain tensioner needs attention too. Photo eye replacement with realignment runs $160 to $240. A full control board on a newer Elite SL series runs $380 to $520 installed if the board is truly fried.
What moves the price is parts, not mystery labor. A motor replacement on a mid-size SL3000 runs $650 to $900 with a new motor and full system setup. We don’t pad the hours. If the job takes twenty minutes, you don’t pay for an hour. Every Elite estimate is free, and the price we write down is the price you pay. Call (559) 844-6989 and we’ll talk through your gate before we even schedule the truck.
Why Beverly Hills Homeowners Call Gatewood Fence & Gate for Elite Work
We’ve been fixing gates in Beverly Hills since 2001, longer than most of the national outfits have existed. Hal Gatewood grew up not far from Roxbury Park, went through the welding and fabrication program at Santa Monica College, and has been elbow-deep in Elite operators since they were a small Southern California brand. When you call, you get Hal or the person who works beside him every day, not a call center three states away.
We service Elite alongside LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing, so if your system’s a mix of brands, we handle that in one visit. Every Elite job carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. And if the estimate comes back at $300 and the job comes in lower, you pay the lower number. That’s just how we run the shop.
FAQs
We keep the most common Elite SL and SENTINEL parts on the truck, so many repair calls are finished the same day we come out. Emergency calls in Beverly Hills get priority, and we’re answering the phone 24/7 at (559) 844-6989. Call and tell us what the gate is doing and Hal will tell you what it needs, no guessing, no runaround.
We use OEM Elite parts on safety items like photo eyes, limit switches, and control boards. For components like start capacitors and hardware, we often use high-quality aftermarket parts that meet or exceed Elite spec and cost less. We show you the parts and the pricing before anything goes in.
Most of the time, repair. We’ve opened up Elite motors that are fifteen years old and done a $160 capacitor job that kept them running another five. We’ll tell you honestly when replacement makes sense, and we’ll never recommend a swap just because it’s an easier invoice.
Since we’re an independent Elite service provider, we’re not authorized by Elite to perform warranty repairs. If your unit is still under manufacturer warranty, we’ll help you understand what’s covered and what Elite wants done. If you want us to do the work anyway, we warranty our own labor for 90 days in writing.
Yes. We wire Elite operators into existing intercom and phone-entry systems in Beverly Hills estates regularly, and we handle battery backup installation and replacement for the SL series. We test the full cycle with the battery engaged, not just the AC side.
Call (559) 844-6989 today for a free Elite gate motor and opener estimate in Beverly Hills. We answer live, we show up on time, and the price we quote is the price you pay.
